Now I'm no coffee aficionado but I did my fair amount of research before purchasing this $1500 espresso machine. The Jura Capresso machines were a contender but they just didn't offer the same features with a $1500 price tag. Plus, I already own several pieces of DeLonghi kitchen electronics and have been extremely impressed by their quality and performance.
The main feature that I was looking for in an espresso/cappuccino machine was the ability to froth milk automatically before injecting espresso to make a cappuccino. Not being a barista, I did not have the interest to perfect the "art" of frothing milk into the popular "micro-foam" that I have read so much about.
With that said, this machine is incredible. The "one-touch" cappuccino/latte feature works like a charm and in under just one minute. The milk is frothed to what would seem like "micro-foam" perfection (or close to it). Unlike the higher-end Jura Capresso machines, the EAM3500 includes a container that you fill with milk, keep stored in the refrigerator, and then simply insert it into the machine when it's time to use. No silly tubes or canisters that you have to set on your countertop full of milk are used that you have to clean out like on the Jura Capresso machines.
The great stainless steel look is a perfect compliment to any kitchen and includes a handsome LCD screen with blue backlighting.
The machine is quick and efficient and pumps out great tasting beverages with excellent heat and flavor. I have read of some machines not having hot enough heat to the liquid. The DeLonghi EAM3500 gives you a selection of several temperatures. I keep my machine set to the highest temperature and trust me, it's hot. It's so hot that I don't find the need to use the cup warmer prior to filling my cup.
The EAM3500 is able to produce beverage after beverage without downtime of having to wait for the unit to reheat. The only time I have to wait for the unit to reheat is if I use it to dispense a cup of hot water for tea.
Programming is simple and includes an instructional CD for your computer with video on every function of the machine.
Overall, I highly recommend this product. I called DeLonghi customer service to order a replacement part (the original had a small scratch) and they were courteous and prompt. My only negative feedback is that nearly the entire unit is made of plastic. Why-oh-why does a $1500 espresso machine have to be made of all plastic? I have read of this same problem for some of the Jura Capresso machines.
As for Amazon.com, I love them. The service is always fast and efficient. Problems are always resolved quickly. With this order, unfortunately, my $1500 machine was packaged (by Amazon.com) in an extremely cheap box that was nearly crushed upon delivery. Fortunately, DeLonghi packaged their unit well within their own box. The Amazon.com box was ridiculous and a complete disappointment to transport my $1500 purchase.
