great machine
Rating:
A great machine that produces some very good coffee and good (not great) espresso. The machine can turn itself on in the morning and be ready for a great cup of coffee in a few seconds. It also allows for easy selection of coffee strength for each cup. The selected cups size does not affect the amount of coffee beans per cup, but instead produces a larger cup out of an espresso size amount of beans. For a standard size cup of coffee this yields a great cup. For reference, I cannot stand starbucks coffee (no flavors -- just roast taste). My only complaints are cost (should be a few hundred less), the coffee could be hotter, and the digital display never shows the time of day.
too expensive...coffee okay

Obviously the previous reviewer has not tried coffee from a semi automatic machine which hands down provides better crema, better aromas, and better tasting coffee. No matter who you talk to, anyone who has a semi automatic machine will tell you that their coffee is MUCH better than a super automatic. Also, if you really do like this machine (it is a very beautiful machine), get the S7, for it is the same price, but has infinitely more features. This machine is too expensive. Put it into perspective, 1800 dollars for a coffee machine, hmm...what could you buy with 1800 dollars? I don't think I need to go through a list, but I think that gets the point across. This machine will yield no better espresso than any other machine above 500 dollars. Capressos are just outrageously expensive and I have no explanation to why. Some of the features on this machine are useless and you shouldn't even pay for them. For example, it allows you to choose from mild, medium, strong, and extra strong coffee. The mild and the medium taste worse than drip and there is no crema on them, the strong and extra strong are good, BUT NOT GREAT. The only machines that can provide awesome coffee is the semi automatics. Convenience really isn't an argument considering it takes about 3 minutes with a super and 5 with a semi. And you can even get semi's with pods to make brewing easier so all you have to do is put the pod in the portafilter, and turn the brew switch on. One last thing, before you buy it, go out to a store and see it, for you will be surprised with the size. The looks of the front of the machine are nice, the size of it is tremendous.
The Future of Coffee is Here

Wow! What a machine. This is not only great to look at but brews the best crema-topped coffee I have ever seen or tasted, flawlessly every time. For the cost of a daily visit to Starbucks for a year, you can have your own caffe-latte machine at home or at work. It is set up to give different users a choice of three cup sizes and three coffee strenghts. I prefer my coffee strong in a demitasse size cup, while my partner drinks an 8 oz. cup of "mild" coffee. We just push the touch pad and enter our preference and out comes perfect coffee, freshly ground, tamped and brewed in seconds. You can even add pre-ground decaf coffee in a special hopper and then switch to automatic grinding, tamping & brewing the next cup from whole bean coffee. This is the future of coffee. Jura and Capresso got it right!
