Happy with purchase despite other reviews

After reading some of the other reviews on noise and mess, I was a bit hesitant to purchase this burr grinder.

However, I've had it for two weeks and am generally happy with its performance. A few observations:

(1) The instructions ask you to grind some test beans on all fineness settings to insure the burr wheel is adjusting appropriately. I bought some cheap beans, and ran it through its paces. You do need to make certain that the removable upper burr is locked in place before grinding. It did a good job from coarse (french press) to fine (espresso). I make my daily coffee in a french press, and have been impressed with the reduction in fine "coffee silt" that my old grinder used to produce even at the coarse setting.

(2) This device was considerably quieter (and the noise wasn't as high-pitched) than my old Krupps grinder (cylindrical shape with spinning blade on top).

(3) The number of escaping grounds is no higher than my Krupps grinder, nor have I encountered the "static cling" problem.

Overall I'm pleased. Personally, I don't find the portion control dispenser all that useful. If I had to do it over again, I'd buy the similar (and cheaper) model which omits the portion control do-dad.

Excellent grinder, excellent coffee!

I love the 'portion control' that puts the right amount of coffee beans into the grinder, and that it shuts itself off when it's done grinding the beans to the fineness I select.

In the past, I had used a mill grinder where you put in some beans and hold the top down to grind - I never really knew how much to put into it nor how long to grind the beans. The Capresso 555 takes the guess-work out of it. The ground coffee is perfect - not a mix of big chunks of beans and fine powder that I'd gotten from my mill grinder.

People have mentioned that it can be 'messy', but I've found it much cleaner than my old mill grinder. The instructions say to tap the ground-coffee container to reduce static electricity when you remove the container, and I've found this works very well. While I sometimes get some ground coffee on my countertop, it's no more than I get when I'm using pre-ground coffee and measuring it into the coffeemaker.

Poor quality

Died after 4 months of daily use. Motor no longer turns on. Save your money and get a better quality grinder.
