A Great Percolator!
Rating:
This is a wonderful little percolator! It makes great coffee, with a rich coffee flavor that coffee from drip coffee makers just doesn't have. If you like simplicity, and great results, this one is for you. Also, the percolator has that sturdy construction that Farberware is known for. I'm sure this percolator will last for years to come, with proper care and maintenance. I highly recommend it!
Better than expected
Rating:
I bought this percolator to have a "backup" coffeemaker in case of an electrical power failure, since I have gas cooking. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the coffee it makes is delicious. Also, it comes out piping hot, something my drip coffeemaker can't do. The claim that it doesn't need filters is also true. I prefer it now to my drip coffeemaker. You need a pot holder or mitt if you want to remove the cover right after it perks, but that is to be expected with any stove top cookery item.
Great Coffee But Knob Clouded Up
Rating:
This percolator makes a great pot of coffee on my electric range and it makes it fast-I like the design for this reason. My sister has this pot and she experiences the "popping" on her gas range that another reviewer mentioned but I have not. I have also experienced difficulty getting the lid on. It has to be seated just right to work properly. My only gripe with this item is the plastic knob on the top of the lid. It has clouded up to the point that I can not see when the coffee is perking. This is a great inconvenience for me. I have owned this pot for less than a year. Beware-I have written to Farberware about this and since my pot was made before 1998, they will not service it or supply parts for it even though I bought it in 2003. When I emailed to an address for customer service that I found on Farberware.com, a reply came back from the Salton Company telling me that Salton has been manufacturing Farberware products since 1998. They won't address product made before that year. I am going to purchase another one of these pots as a backup for when I need more than 8 cups of coffee at a time. Considering the above, it's well worth this price.
