Sure glad that I could pawn this off coffee maker on my son! After several other failed attempts at find the ultimate thermal coffee maker, this one held the most promise. We couldn't stand pouring from the carafe! Coffee all over almost every time! We could never let a stranger pour from it. We also had water all over the counter and in the drawers several times. Nuf said. But maybe they've redesigned the carafe - the one in the photo here looks like it has different handle. But it's the spout design that has the problem.
Coffee has a flavor other then bitter... really!
Rating:
I have always wanted to purchase a quality coffee maker, but the hassle of tracking down a store that carries one always wore me down and I would typically end up with the most expensive coffee maker that I could find. I was looking for a coffee maker that actually brought out the flavor of a good bean and didn't add the all so common burnt bitter coffee flavor. The Capresso MT-500 did the trick for me. It is an excellent machine, well constructed and engineered with quality in mind. Since the water heating element is stainless steel, it doesn't add any special flavorings to the coffee. For people who love ultra-hot coffee, pre-heat the thermal carafe with hot water prior to brewing or you might be disappointed in the coffee temperature.
Great coffee maker - poor coffee keeper
Rating:
The comments below are based on 3 months of daily use. This is a great coffee maker. It's a shame the carafe (the keeper) isn't as capable as the rest of the machine. For the price, I would expect a well-designed carafe that would keep the coffee hot for at least 2 hours. In reality, if you don't drink it within the first hour, serious heat loss will keep you from fully enjoying the great coffee the brewer produces. The flaw seems simple enough - poor carafe insulation. You can quickly feel heat on the outside of the carafe after making a fresh pot (if you can feel it on the outside, it's gone from the inside). I would also like to see the carafe with a more clearly marked top (pouring position), larger lid tabs to make it easier to open, and an improved pour flow rate (pretty slow).
